Senior Python Backend Engineer

Browsing jobs can get boring, so let us convince you to actually apply for this one. We’re continuously looking for backend engineers who want to work on cutting-edge Python-based systems.

It’s me, your new favorite tech challenge.

Our main project right now is a trustless supercluster of performance-proofed GPU-enabled sandboxed docker container runners controlled by truly decentralized algorithms (not just PAXOS or RAFT). Sounds interesting? Then…

Join Reef Technologies and work on your own terms:

• Contribute from wherever you like—we are fully remote but like to stay in sync, so we’re currently hiring in EMEA/APAC.

• Set your own time commitment, as long as it’s 30h per week or more

• Work on complex projects with global reach

• Influence the way we operate through our Sociocracy 3.0 decision-making process

Remuneration on a B2B contract:

• 45-70 USD or 180-280 PLN per hour

• 7,560–11,760 USD, or 28800–44800 PLN per month if you work 40 hours per week (most of us work a bit less)

• Flexible work schedule (as measured with a time tracker)

• We automatically adjust rates based on inflation twice a year

Additional perks of working at Reef Technologies:

• We offer a stable position at a company with an 8+ year history.

• We cover reasonable coworking space expenses.

• We’ll buy the necessary hardware for you according to our equipment co-funding policy.

• You’ll work in a multicultural environment where everyone has a say.

• You’ll get to use your English skills on an everyday basis.

• You’ll get to take advantage of our flexible leave policy.

Expert Python engineer wanted

Do you have at least 5 years of programming experience, including at least a year with Python? (We mean open source and significant personal projects, too, not just formal jobs.) If so, you have probably written so much Python code in your life that, at times, you want to express your thoughts through list comprehensions. Thanks to your extensive experience, you can solve any problem that gets thrown at you, but that is not enough—you come up with multiple solutions for every issue, and you always know how to choose the most Pythonic one.

We’re not just looking for technical skills—we need someone who codes with passion and takes real pride in their work. If you thrive on solving complex problems, love diving into code, and are always looking for that next challenge, we want you on board. Your enthusiasm and drive must be as strong as your Python skills.

In our team, ownership is non-negotiable—it’s the backbone of our work style. We take responsibility for our code from the first line to deployment, ensuring it is rock-solid and efficient. If you’re the type who sees a project through, squashes bugs like a boss, and always thinks ahead, you’ll fit right in here.

And that is all a good sign—a sign that means you’re exactly the type of person we’re looking for! If you’d like to see what it’s like to work with Python natives who all bring their long-standing expertise to the table, please get in touch. Spoiler alert: it’s great.

Imagine working with a team that only ever delivers stable solutions—that’s us. We’ve developed a system that’s allowed us to deliver more than a hundred challenging projects, and we’d love to improve it even further with you on the team.

We have good manners, though, so let us introduce ourselves more at length before we say our vows ;) Do you want to learn what it’d be like to work at Reef Technologies? We were hoping you’d ask.

Working at Reef in practice

Reef Technologies is a fully remote Python backend software house. We’re a small, agile, senior-only team. All of our current members have more than five years of strong experience, and our founder doesn’t only take care of sales, bureaucracy, and client relationships—he is also a programmer, so all of us really do work together and understand the job at hand.

We’re serious about freedom at Reef. We mostly work asynchronously, which means that apart from a few meetings, you're free to code at any hour you like. Our staff members live in different time zones anyway, and, of course, we collaborate to accommodate everyone’s needs for synchronous engagements.

What scheduled commitments can you expect? Every week, we hold a general news & celebrations (watercooler) call and a decision-making Sociocracy call for the whole team.

Our main project also has a weekly planning call and dailies, but depending on the project and the client you work for, your meeting schedule might be different. Rest assured that your needs will be taken into account when we plan it.

All in all, we do our best to ensure proper work-life balance and create an environment where you can focus on your code while at work and on whatever brings you pleasure in your free time.

All that without ever setting foot in an office. We create ingenious solutions for complex challenges from the comfort of our own homes, from tropical beaches and from our favorite coffee shops. Some of us work early in the morning; others start out late at night.

Each of us is free to choose their own programming environment. We know our engineers are competent enough to organize their work and achieve top productivity in their own way.

Do you think you'd enjoy this type of freedom? Apply and let’s see if we should work together.
