Backend Developer with German - Node.js / TypeScript🚀

Role Overview

For our Client, we are looking for a qualified partner for a Senior Backend Developer with strong TypeScript and Node.js skills and practical German communication abilities to join a long-term enterprise project. The project focuses on the development, modernization, and stabilization of a large-scale enterprise platform serving over one million users. You will work on existing backend services, develop new features, improve application performance, and help ensure the platform's reliability and maintainability.

The technology stack includes TypeScript, Node.js, NestJS, PostgreSQL, and React, with the application running in a Kubernetes environment. You will collaborate with an international engineering team and communicate regularly with German-speaking colleagues and stakeholders. You will use German skills in technical discussions, and when working with project documentation.

Your Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and enhance backend services using TypeScript and Node.js.

• Work with NestJS or similar backend frameworks to implement business logic and new functionalities.

• Design, develop, and maintain REST APIs and system integrations.

• Analyze and refactor existing code to improve performance, reliability, and maintainability.

• Investigate and resolve bugs, technical issues, and application performance problems.

• Write and maintain unit and integration tests.

• Participate in code reviews and promote clean code and good engineering practices.

• Work with PostgreSQL and SQL to support application functionality and data processing.

• Collaborate with frontend developers, QA engineers, DevOps engineers, and software architects.

• Communicate with German-speaking colleagues and stakeholders to clarify requirements, discuss technical solutions, and resolve issues.

• Contribute to the continuous modernization and stabilization of a large-scale enterprise application.

Requirements

• 4+ years of commercial software development experience

• Strong hands-on experience with TypeScript

• Solid experience with Node.js and backend application development

• Experience with NestJS or a similar Node.js framework. NestJS is strongly preferred

• Good understanding of REST APIs and backend development principles

• Practical German language skills at B1 level or higher, including speaking, reading, and writing

• Confidence in participating in everyday technical discussions and meetings in German

• Ability to understand German-language documentation, tickets, and project requirements

• Experience working with Git and collaborative development workflows

• Understanding of clean code principles, software testing, and application debugging

• Basic knowledge of SQL and relational databases

• Good English communication skills

Nice to Have

• Experience with NestJS

• Experience working on large-scale enterprise applications

• Knowledge of microservices, modular monoliths, or service-oriented architecture.

• Familiarity with Domain-Driven Design and design patterns.

• Experience with PostgreSQL, advanced SQL, and query optimization.

• Knowledge of Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, or event-driven architecture.

• Experience with Elasticsearch.

• Familiarity with Data Lake solutions, CDC, or ETL/ELT pipelines.

• Knowledge of Kubernetes, OKD, or OpenShift.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

• Knowledge of OAuth2, JWT, or Keycloak.

• Experience with multi-tenant architectures and data isolation.

• Familiarity with SonarQube or other code quality tools.

• Basic knowledge of React or frontend development.

• Experience with financial or other business-critical enterprise systems.

• Familiarity with performance testing tools such as k6.

You should be comfortable working with an existing codebase, implementing backend features, solving technical problems, and collaborating with an international team.

What matters most is strong backend development experience, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to communicate confidently in German in your daily work.
