About the project

Shape the digital production of tomorrow.

The Factory Edge Platform provides the technological foundation for data analytics, artificial intelligence, computer vision, and Industrial IoT across MAN's production plants. As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will be part of the Provisioning Team and play a key role in operating, enhancing, and scaling this platform.

You will be responsible for the technical provisioning of production-related applications on a modern OpenShift platform and ensure that new use cases are transferred into production efficiently, securely, and in a standardized manner. In doing so, you will work closely with the plants, internal specialist departments, and external service providers, while actively supporting the implementation of Industry 4.0 and AI applications.

Your responsibilities

DevOps & Platform Engineering

• Building and operating automated CI/CD pipelines

• Deploying applications using GitOps principles

• Creating and maintaining declarative deployment configurations for OpenShift using GitOps principles (e.g. ArgoCD, Helm Charts, Kustomize)

• Automating operational, deployment, and configuration processes

• Container and release management throughout the entire software lifecycle

Use Case Development and Integration

• Developing and enhancing cloud-native microservices

• Implementing integration services based on Java, Apache Camel, and Quarkus

• Developing MQTT-, OPC UA-, and REST-based interfaces

• Independently implementing smaller Factory Edge use cases

• Integrating data analytics, AI, and computer vision applications

• Creating technical documentation and operating manuals

Data Integration & Unified Namespace

• Operating and enhancing the Unified Namespace (UNS)

• Integrating production systems via MQTT, OPC UA, and REST

• Building and operating event-driven architectures

• Ensuring standardized data flows between OT and IT systems

• Supporting the integration of MES, SCADA, and cloud systems

Provider Management & Support

• Technically managing external service providers and managed service providers

• Monitoring compliance with SLA and KPI requirements

• Supporting incident, problem, and change management processes

• Conducting technical reviews and quality checks

• Providing second-level support for the platform and production use cases

Our requirements

• Degree in computer science, automation engineering, information technology, or a comparable qualification

• Fluent English language skills (min. C1)

Professional Qualifications

• Degree in computer science, automation engineering, information technology, or a comparable qualification

• Several years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, cloud operations, or site reliability engineering

• Experience in the production operation of business-critical platforms

• Experience in an industrial environment or production IT is an advantage

• Core Technical Competencies

Must-have Skills

• Several years of hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes

• Strong knowledge of application containerization using Docker and/or Podman

• Experience in building and operating CI/CD pipelines with GitLab CI/CD

• Several years of experience developing cloud-native microservices with Java

• Very good knowledge of Quarkus

• Experience with Apache Camel for implementing integration and routing solutions

• Very good Linux skills, ideally Red Hat Enterprise Linux

• Experience with GitOps, Helm, and Infrastructure as Code concepts

• Knowledge of MQTT, event-driven architectures, and the Unified Namespace (UNS)

• Experience integrating systems via REST APIs, OPC UA, and MQTT

Desirable Additional Qualifications

• Knowledge of Python for automation, data processing, and the implementation of analytics and AI applications

• Knowledge of Industrial IoT, edge computing, and OT/IT convergence

• Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, centralized logging platforms, alerting concepts, and modern observability solutions.

• Knowledge of computer vision, machine learning, or AI platforms
