Senior Backend Engineer (GO, Kotlin or Python)

We are looking for a senior backend engineer to join a growing product and engineering organization working with large-scale digital platforms and complex distributed systems.

The assignment involves a mix of backend development, technical modernization initiatives, platform evolution, and large-scale migration projects in a cloud-native environment. A significant part of the role will be focused on helping engineering teams modernize and transform existing systems, making previous experience from similar journeys highly valuable.

This is a hands-on role where you will work across multiple services and domains, helping drive architectural improvements while ensuring stability, scalability, and business continuity in production environments.

Key responsibilities:

• Design, develop and maintain backend services in a modern cloud environment
• Lead technical migration initiatives, including decomposition of legacy applications and extraction of services from larger platforms
• Plan and execute production data migration projects with a strong focus on reliability, consistency, and minimal business impact
• Contribute to architecture, technical design and solution proposals
• Work across multiple systems and services, often in unfamiliar codebases
• Troubleshoot, monitor and improve production systems
• Collaborate closely with engineering, product and other cross-functional teams
• Promote engineering best practices, code quality and knowledge sharing

Required experience:

• 7+ years of backend software engineering experience
• Strong experience designing and operating distributed systems in production
• Proven experience leading monolith break-out projects, service extraction initiatives, or other large-scale system modernization efforts
• Hands-on experience planning and executing production data migrations, including ownership from design through delivery
• Strong programming skills in Go, Kotlin and/or Python
• Experience working with public cloud platforms (preferably GCP or similar)
• Experience working with modern AI-assisted development workflows
• Ability to quickly understand complex systems and work across multiple domains
• Strong communication skills in English

Nice to have:

• Experience with search platforms, recommendation engines, or data-intensive applications
• Experience working closely with machine learning teams and data-driven product development
• Experience from high-scale digital products serving large user bases

Please note that candidates should be able to demonstrate concrete examples of monolith decomposition, service extraction, technical modernization programs, or production data migration projects they have personally driven and delivered. This experience will be considered a key success factor for the assignment.
