Senior SAP ABAP Developer

Job Description

At aplicado, we help customers design, implement and modernize SAP solutions that support their business processes. As an SAP-focused IT consulting company, we support businesses throughout their SAP journey—from system operations and authorizations to migrations, integration and cloud transformation.

We are looking for an experienced Senior ABAP Developer to join international SAP transformation projects. You will design, develop and support maintainable SAP solutions, combining ABAP and Fiori expertise with business-process knowledge, clean-core principles, integration, security and performance.

Working with functional consultants, architects, business stakeholders and delivery teams, you will take ownership of complex developments from requirements analysis through deployment and operational handover.

Your Responsibilities

• Translate functional requirements into technical designs, estimates and implementation plans.

• Develop and enhance ABAP, ABAP Objects and Fiori solutions, including reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, forms, workflows, APIs, data models and background processing.

• Build SAP S/4HANA solutions using CDS, code-pushdown concepts and HANA-aware development; implement integrations through IDoc, RFC, BAPI, OData, REST or SOAP.

• Prepare technical specifications, unit-test evidence, deployment instructions and support documentation that meet project and audit requirements.

• Conduct code reviews and performance optimization, covering database access, processing, memory usage and background jobs using SAP quality and performance tools.

• Apply clean-core principles, secure coding, authorization checks, data-protection controls, automated testing and quality gates.

• Manage transports, releases, cutover, hypercare and operational handover; resolve production incidents through root-cause analysis and sustainable corrective actions.

• Support upgrades, S/4HANA transformations and custom-code remediation, communicating progress, risks and dependencies across teams.

• Act as a trusted technical adviser, mentor developers and contribute to technical governance, reusable assets and continuous improvement.

Your Profile

• At least 5 years of SAP ABAP and Fiori development experience, including ownership of complex enterprise deliverables.

• Advanced skills in ABAP, ABAP Objects, Open SQL, debugging, enhancements and performance analysis.

• Hands-on SAP S/4HANA experience, including CDS data models, code pushdown, HANA-aware development and relevant integration technologies.

• Strong knowledge of development lifecycle controls, testing, transports, release management, production support and technical documentation.

• Understanding of SAP business processes, clean-core principles, secure development and software engineering standards.

• Strong analytical, communication and teamwork skills, with a structured, independent and customer-oriented approach.

• Ability to collaborate across international, multidisciplinary teams; fluent English (B2-C1).

• A relevant degree in computer science, information systems, engineering or business informatics, or equivalent education and practical experience.

Nice to Have

• SAP certification in ABAP, S/4HANA, Fiori, SAP BTP or solution architecture.

• Experience with RAP, Fiori elements, SAPUI5 collaboration, BTP extensions, embedded analytics or event-driven integration.

• Knowledge of abapGit, gCTS, CI/CD, automated quality checks or cloud transport management.

• Experience with SAP Activate, agile delivery, regulated environments or S/4HANA transformation projects.

• Technical workstream leadership or experience working with distributed teams.

• Command of German is an advantage.
